Finley's story. By Travis Radunz.

Ever since I can remember I have wanted a dog of my own. Growing up I would beg and plead with my parents to let me have a dog – but they worried about our yard not having enough shade and not being suitable. I remember one year writing to Santa begging him to bring me a dog. I woke up on Christmas morning to a toy beagle stuffed in my make-shift stocking –needless to say the next year I was more specific!!! Despite these early set backs, I remained determined and finally at the age of 21 I got my first puppy!

I stumbled upon an ad online for a litter of standard dachshund puppies and called up. The breeder told me she had three left and I asked her which one had the best personality. She started to describe Finley to me… and I was sold. Thinking back on it now I can’t fully remember how she described him but I do remember her saying that he waddled when he walked and he was a sun baker like his daddy - and I just love little quirks like that.

So you can imagine the excitement I was feeling when I went to pick him up! I spent time with his parents, giving them lots of pats and reassuring them that I would take good care of him, before letting them say goodbye and taking Finley home with me.

Since bringing Finley into my life I feel more complete. He is my entertainer, my confidant, my hot water bottle, my personal trainer, my tissues when I cry, and above all that my best friend. We do so much together. I love exploring new places with him, meeting new people, playing and sometimes just moping around together. Finley is so much more than I ever imagined. I can't wait for all the adventures and fun times that are yet to come!
