Cost of medical treatment for dogs skyrockets

The Herald Sun reports that veterinary bills for adored cats and dogs have blown out by as much as 500 per cent in the past two years because of medical advances.
A review by consumer watchdog Choice reveals owners are being charged more than $25,000 for some treatments to save four-legged friends.

Veterinary medicine is following in the footsteps of human medicine, with many devoted owners demanding the same standard of care that they expect for themselves. In the absence of tax-payer-funded medical care for pets, though, it's worth considering pet insurance. Choice ran an article on this lately, too. -
Vet service is very specialized and important. We all seem to take our loved pets to our Vet if we get concerned of a health issue whether it need medication due to a pathology or a musculoskeletal problem. Thank fully I use animal acupuncture/osteopathy. I run with my dog and do lots of kms. Just like humans, dogs need to be treated also when doing the milage my dog does. Instead of always going to a vet for anti-inflammatories as we would Drs, my dog receives animal acupuncture/osteopathy/massage for maintenance, money very well invested!!! The results are amazing. -
As someone who has spent over $25,000 on vet bills for my animals in just over a year (and one of my animals died ) I was astounded to find out the industry is unregulated.
My own vets are fantastic, do a brilliant job and I am happy for the service I get, but if you value your animal and your money - never take them to the Animal Emergency centre in Melbourne ( Wickham Road) - they diagnose your pet(incorrectly) by just looking at them - demand thousands of dollars up front before they even treat your animal and then over dose your pet on drugs.
So trust me when I say - all vets are not the same - but more importantly - money does not buy you good service in terms of Vets !
